How to Match Your Shoes to Any Occasion

Your Guide to Match Your Shoes to an Event

Ever been unsure of how to match your shoes to an event?

One of the worst fashion mistakes is to treat shoes as an afterthought. Many people plan out an outfit thinking solely of clothing, then put on their simplest pair of shoes. Most times, they might end up in a situation where their shoes don’t quite match their outfit. Or worse, the event they are attending doesn’t quite match their shoes. The best way to avoid this fashion faux pas is to take a few things into consideration when planning your next outfit. We’ve compiled the most important ones to keep in mind.

Location

The most important thing you should consider is definitely the location you’re headed to. The main issue here is practicality. If you know the venue where you are going, check the floors and what you’ll be stepping on. A pair of high, slim heels such as a stiletto might not be the best pick for an event outside where you’ll be walking on grass. For such a situation, a flat or low thick heel might suit you better and save you a headache. Our Fiore and our Capri are great examples, offering the stability and class of a low heel that you’ll need.

Time

When analyzing time, it’s important to consider not only the time of day but also the time you’ll be spending on your feet. Many shoes can easily be worn day or night, but some styles are better suited for one or the other. For example, our Fiore Sandals are a great pick for a day outfit. In the other hand, our Olga Slingback Pumps suit the nighttime perfectly.

While it might be hard to guess how long you’ll be standing up or walking on an upcoming event, our tip is that it’s always good to estimate it. Take into consideration if you’ll be sitting for long periods of time — you might get away with a higher heel. But if you know that you’ll pace around a lot, you might be better off with a lower heel or none at all. Always make your comfort one of your priorities!

Weather

Similarly to location, the weather can make or break your shoe choice. Though predicting the weather might be as certain as a coin-toss, try to check local reports for what to expect. It’s all about trying to save yourself some trouble! If rain pours down on your parade, you’ll be glad you left the house in a stylish closed-toe shoe rather than something open. Our Kate Leather Pump is a stylish take on the closed-toe option. But if you need the protection of the closed-toe in the Summer, you can’t go wrong with the Nancy Slingback or Naomi Mule

Clothing

Of course, this list would not be complete without taking into account the entire outfit that accompanies the shoe! It’s pretty intuitive to see if colors match or if any prints clash when picking a shoe. Still, there’s more you should check for before leaving the house! Does your shoe compliment the clothes or does it distract from them? Are your feet and your body dressed for the same occasion? Does your shoe get caught on any bits of your clothes? How does the whole outfit come together with the accessories? The Nicole Slingback Pump is our favorite no-fuss shoe. Don’t be afraid of switching any piece of your outfit if it fails this test. You should always head to an event as put together as possible!
